 TO USE IT PROPERLY

YOU MUST KNOW WHEN YOUR GULLET NEEDS CHANGING

and

WHEN YOU'VE CHANGED IT YOU MUST BE SURE THE SADDLE FITS PROPERLY

THE PERFECT FIT will help you with both of these.

We recommend that you use the kit frequently to check if your horse has changed shape. (See checking your horse's shape change page)

If you feel that your horse may have either put weight on or lost weight, it is important that you check to see if he or she has changed shape under the saddle.  With the kit this takes seconds to do - merely place the upper part of the wither template (you will have already made this) onto the wither and it will immediately tell you if your horse has changed shape.

If your check shows that your horse or pony has changed shape you can alter the width of your gullet accordingly.

BUT:

If a horse changes shape at the wither, he/she will also change the shape over the rest of the back. This means that changing the shape of the gullet does only that and will not take account of or alter the shape of the saddle in other areas. We recommend that after you have made the adjustment, you remeasure your horse in all three areas and check these new measurements under the saddle.  If, after alteration, your saddle's underside is not the same as your horse's back, it means it no longer fits your horse and may hurt him/her.  It may be possible to use pads to correct the fit.We would recommend that you ask your saddle fitter to help with this.

Wintec Saddles have brought out a Saddle with an  interchangeable riser system  as well as an interchangeable gullet. This allows you to change the shape of the whole area of the saddle to fit your horse exactly, so, if after the gullet change, the shape of the underside of the saddle does not match the shape of the horse's back you can alter it with the riser system.

We strongly recommend that after using this system, you check all three measurements of your horse's back to be sure that you have correctly used the risers and the saddle fits perfectly.
